CHINA

WaterfrontWhat can we say about China except “WOW!” China is truly a different world. With over 5000 years of history, China is the last of the ancient civilizations still in existence. Its diversity often astounds the foreign visitor – from the bright lights and fast pace of Shanghai to the more artsy, traditional Beijing, from rainforest in the tropical south to sub-artic in the northeast near the Russian border, and then there’s the Great Wall, the Terracotta Soldiers, the Silk Road, and events such as the Chinese New Year (in February), the Lantern Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival, Tomb Sweeping Day, and so many others…

Chinese banquetAnd of course… the food! No country on Earth takes their food so seriously. Its variety stems from the fact that China is so ethnically diverse, being composed of 56 ethnic groups. Depending on the region, you will encounter steamed bread and noodles, lots of fresh meat, fish and vegetables, ‘red cooking’ and spare ribs, and the famous Sichuan, very very spicy with chillies. For the adventurous, try frogs, scorpion on a stick, pickled snakes… need I go on? Tea is the most common non-alcoholic drink, and beer is quite established as the most popular alcoholic drink.

Great wall of China Not to mention the martial arts, the acrobatics, the Chinese opera, the calligraphy, the bicycles, and so much more. Beijing’s history as a city goes back to 1045 BC; Hubei in central China is known as the ‘Province of a thousand lakes’; Sichuan, in southwest China is the home of the giant pandas, and 54 endangered species; Gansu province in the northwest, has more than 1000 ancient sights, many of them along the legendary Silk Road…

There is so much more we could tell you, but the best option is… to see it for yourself!
